When Darkness Takes Over- A Poem About Depression & Hope

Poem by Rosie Morris
Trapped and controlled, unaware,
Bound by chains that burn and tear.
And should I dare to pull away,
They tighten more with every day.
Darkness falls, fears come to life,
there is no safety in the night…
Betrayal, heartbreak, grief and loss become intense, no path to cross…
The swords line up, heavy in my mind, rock bottom is now the space that I find…
There is no escape, no way out.
My eyes are blind, please, help me out…
Slowly, I sink into deep uncertainty.
Illusions cloud my mind; deep waters are murky…
I’m lost in the void, between life and death.
Where do I go to release all this stress?
Alone and helpless, I open my eyes.
A sage with a staff guides me to the stars…
The stillness. The suffering. The endless suspension.
A familiar search for a new comprehension...
A wild lioness roars through the night,
Her strength burning fierce, her spirit alight.
No burden I carry can silence her song,
For she lives within me, fierce and strong.
Can you hear me now? I scream…
In the distance, a star shines so bright, help is here to unburden the night.
My ordeal is over. I crawl out unscathed. I’m safe again, the road is now paved.
For now, deep rest is all I need, I cling to faith, a fragile seed.
And hope takes charge, no longer afraid,
Whispering softly, “You’ll be okay.”
